Senior Shopify Developer

About the client

Our client is an American multinational manufacturing company renowned for its innovative products and unique corporate culture, is seeking a Senior Shopify Developer to lead a significant project rewriting their existing BigCommerce platform to Shopify from scratch. Founded in 1958 and headquartered in Newark, Delaware, the company is famous for revolutionizing the outdoor clothing market with its waterproof, breathable fabric and producing high-performance medical, electronic, and industrial products. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a cutting-edge project in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment as we transition our large US-based project to a modern Shopify architecture.

About the project

Our team is launching a massive commerce transformation for a premium technical apparel brand, moving them away from an over-engineered, high-maintenance legacy headless stack. The goal is to shift the entire ecosystem to a high-performance, headful Shopify Enterprise platform. This is a complete rebuild from scratch, starting with a headless BigCommerce platform, so it is definitely not a project for tweaking ready-made templates. In this role, you will tackle deep enterprise integrations with ERP and PIM systems, optimize core performance, and write complex custom business logic leveraging modern platform extensibility.

Responsibilities

  • Platform Migration and Development. Lead the end-to-end rebuild from headless BigCommerce to a headful Shopify Enterprise platform while ensuring a robust and scalable architecture.
  • POS, Omnichannel, and Extensibility. Build custom apps and extensions leveraging Shopify APIs and modern frameworks like Shopify App Bridge, Remix or Next.js, and Node.js. You will develop Shopify Functions to implement complex pricing logic and build custom admin applications and extensions.
  • Checkout and Customer Portal Customizations. Own the frontend and backend updates for checkout and the customer portal, making sure these critical touchpoints handle complex, tailored business logic seamlessly.
  • Responsive Design. Implement high-performance, accessible, and fluid layouts using Online Store 2.0 theme sections.
  • Third-Party Integration. Connect essential enterprise services like central ERP and PIM data fields, advanced search platforms like Algolia, returns automation, and marketing tools.
  • Performance Optimization. Maximize store performance natively on Shopify Liquid themes by leveraging the global CDN, and optimize page speed metrics, SEO structure, and accessibility compliance.
  • Quality Assurance. Ensure top-tier code quality through code reviews, testing, and strict adherence to development best practices.
  • Agile Collaboration. Work closely with product managers, designers, and system architects in an agile environment to turn complex business logic into solid code.

Requirements

  • Role Fit. You act as a strategic partner who truly understands corporate e-commerce models, provides deep Shopify expertise, and guides ecosystem tool selections.
  • Experience. You have at least 5 years of professional web development experience, with 3 or more years focused strictly on Shopify Plus or Enterprise setups.
  • Technical Stack. You possess deep, proven knowledge of Shopify Online Store 2.0 and its theme architecture. You know the Liquid template engine inside out and are comfortable working with Shopify App Bridge, Remix, Next.js, and Node.js.
  • Shopify Experience. You have a proven track record of developing complex Checkout Extensions,  Shopify Functions, and POS UI Extensions. You can identify business use cases and suggest a “Shopify-native” solution via native functionality, third-party application, or custom development.
  • API Integration. You have a solid understanding of Shopify GraphQL Admin and Storefront APIs, webhook management, and platform rate limits.
  • Communication. Your English level is Upper-Intermediate or higher, so you can collaborate smoothly with the technical team.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and excellent teamwork.
  • Communication: Upper-Intermediate level of English or higher.

As a plus

  • Platform Expertise: Prior experience with BigCommerce or Commercetools (highly beneficial for the migration phase).
  • Specific Tooling: Familiarity with Adyen, Algolia, Contentful, Klaviyo, Narvar, or Yotpo.
  • Certifications: Shopify Headless or Shopify Liquid certifications.

We offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Flexible working hours to maintain work-life balance.
  • 20 working days of annual vacation + paid state holidays.
  • Paid sick leave.
  • Personal laptop with all necessary software.
  • Support services: Corporate accountant, lawyer, and psychologist.
  • Professional growth: 50% compensation for workshops and professional conferences.
  • English classes (50% compensation).
  • Transparent and bureaucracy-free management.
