About the client
About the project
It is a small, hands-on engineering team that values initiative, speed, and simple, robust solutions. You will be the dedicated engineer owning meaningful product and infrastructure work end to end, working directly with the technical founders, with no separate project manager or extra management layers.
Responsibilities
- Building and optimizing a Python/FastAPI backend that works efficiently and reliably with PostgreSQL.
- Owning features end to end: scoping, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
- Diagnosing performance bottlenecks and making sound architecture decisions.
- Working directly with the founders: discussing requirements, proposing solutions, and communicating progress.
- Proactively identifying and implementing improvements in the product and infrastructure.
- Using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, or similar) with strong review and verification habits.
Requirements
- Strong production Python experience: backend services and APIs (FastAPI preferred).
- Solid PostgreSQL expertise: schema and data modeling, SQL, indexing, query planning, transaction behavior, and performance tuning.
- Systems engineering fundamentals: Linux/server environments, networking basics, concurrency, resource utilization, reliability, profiling, and debugging.
- Sound architecture and engineering judgment: maintainable code, testing, observability, deployment, and scalability.
- Ability to independently scope, implement, validate, and ship features; comfort with ambiguity.
- Practical, effective use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, or similar).
- Clear communication and English sufficient for daily direct work with the founders.
- Initiative, curiosity, accountability, and a startup mindset.
As a plus
- Model Context Protocol (MCP), AI agents, agent observability/tracing, or AI memory systems.
- Identity management experience (e.g., Microsoft Entra ID).
- Kubernetes, containers, cloud infrastructure, or infrastructure automation.
- Go (used in parts of the CLI tooling).
- React and TypeScript; Node.js familiarity.
